Sorry piggy, but it was worth every penny! I filled in all my measurements on the Zinn sizing page on their website, and then got a call from Nick to just ask a few more questions about my riding style preferences. Apparently a 3XL was going to be just right for me. When the biggest bike box I’d ever seen was delivered to my house a few weeks later, I knew there was something special in there. I pulled out the frame, wheels and assorted other parts, assembled everything, and when I got on it … it fit! I mean it actually FIT me! Like a bike fit me the last time when I was a teenager and still under 6′ tall. Wow, what a feeling!
Regardless of my body height, I was told a perfectly fitting bike would help me avoid injuries in the cervical (neck) area as well as lumbar and sacral (lower back) area. In addition, an off-kilter pedal stroke could add to knee problems over time. All of this is documented in online publications and totally makes sense. But it makes sense for someone who is serious about riding a bike. I never wanted to be a guy who is serious about bike riding.
This bike was a really cool project. Lester Binegar, CFO of our favorite local Boulder Bike shop, University bikes, came to us with the idea to build his dream e-bike. Ubikes has been a cycling institution in Boulder for ages, so it was really cool to be able to build a bike for Lester. His idea was to make an electric mountain bike that would be great for commuting, trail riding, and gravel riding and we wanted to keep it as light as we could. Under 40lbs was the request, and we knew this would be a challenge.
This year we had the pleasure of building a custom titanium ebike for a really nice woman in Georgia. She contacted us because she is retired from working at UGA, and does a lot of long supported group rides with friends. She decided she needed and ebike since many of her friends had them and she wanted to be able to keep up with them. Below is her review of the new bike after some big rides.
Bike arrived Sunday. What a machine. Did a quick 12 mile loop to break it in. Really amazing, the fit is exceptional. I realize now that I have never really had a bike that fits.
It’s been a couple of months since the new 4XL Clydesdale Draft arrived. It’s been absolutely great! I’m enjoying the longer cranks. I was a little concerned about knee pain, but the opposite has been true. Everything from clipping in to riding hills has felt more natural and more comfortable. I can really feel bigger muscles working in a new way.
We rode 47 miles on Sunday. Beautiful sunny day and my new Miss Eggplant rode beautifully!! I'm in love. The shifting works like a dream and I like how the handle bars are. Many options to move my hands around. I feel the frame is perfect..I still might raise the seat just a tiny bit. Both Rodney and I were very moved by how you are just the same as when we first met you. Your working space in your garage, the simplicity, the ease, comfort and genuine being you are. We much appreciate that especially in this crazy world we live in these days. Take care and thank you -G [gallery columns="4" ids="2048,2049,2044,2045"]
I’m sure there were many more people involved but yours are the only names I have. Thank you for my 2XL Draft! The bike is an absolute revelation to ride.
Hey lennard - this stuff rocks! i am sure you will have success with it. i am also the race director for the UB515 series in brasil - we have three large events with a lot of good sponsorship. i will put the word around that you are still making stuff like my 190mm cranks !!!! those cranks have about a million race miles on them, with finishes as high as 3rd OA at ultraman canada, and 2nd OA at Ironman Revisited. i also won the ultraman world championship for my age group twice on them. i can see them from where i am sitting - my Cervelo R3SL is hanging from the ceiling in the front office : ) i loved being able to get you guys out on the water, i wished i had gotten out there too, but it was one of those weeks. next time! as for C19, Kona is of course so far off the beaten path no self-respecting virus would make it here. we have 5 cases, no-one has been hospitalized. i suspect that is the worst of it. stay safe and i'll talk to yhou soon, [/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
